The Document Viewer can view the following file types: CATIA .cgr and 3dxml files, PowerPoint*, Excel*, Word*, PDF, 3D PDF, XPS, Image Files, Text Files, and several others. For unsupported file types, Data Sentinel comes with a convenient Screen Capture tool for taking snap shots of the unsupported file ontents. This snapshot will be displayed in the Document Viewer and Thumbnail Viewer when the item is selected in the Project Window. Office documents (Powerpoint, Excel, and Word documents), are automatically converted to XPS files when added to the database project or updated. The viewer then displays these XPS files whe the item is selected in the Project Window. CATIA is supported in the Viewer in that it will display both .cgr and 3dxml files. The only requirement is that the 3dxml player is installed on the computer. This will allow the user to analyze the 3D model. Data Sentinel can be setup to automatically convert CATIA CATParts and CATIA CATProducts to either cgr files or 3dxml files. Other CAD formats can be supported in the viewer once they have been converted over to 3D PDF's. 3D PDF's are a great tool for quickly viewing CAD models without having to have a license for the CAD Software. You can rotate, pan, zoom, take section cuts and much more.
Document Viewer Examples:
The Document Viewer can support CATIA .cgr and 3dxml files when the 3dxml player is installed. It can support other CAD files only through the use of 3D PDF's. Conversion to 3D PDF's can be done through the use of 3rd party applications. Once that is done, Data Sentinel can be set up to automatically display them. CATIA is supported in a variety of other ways. CATIA files can be inserted from Data Sentinel directly into an existing CATIA session that contains a product. Double clicking on a CATIA file will launch that file in CATIA as long as a CATIA session is currently ative. Data Sentinel can also be setup to automatically convert CATIA CATParts and CATIA CATProducts to cgr or 3dxml files. Data Setinel can also be setup to automatically add custom attributes to the CATIA model's property page.
Document History: The Document History Window tracks and logs all recordable events for a file, including revisions and all versions. Recordable events include check-in, update, add, release, release undo, and delete. Notes can be added to each entry in the History Window allowing the user to document what changes were made between version updates or revision changes.
Document Revisions: This window will show all previous revisions to a file. Any of these revisions can be opened up and reviewed side by side with the current revision. The previous revision window only works with documents whose file names do not change from revision to revision.
Document Versions: This window will show all versions of a file. The number a versions that Data Sentinel can track and manage can be set anywhere between 0 and 100. All document versions listed in this window can be opened and reviewed side by side with the current version.
Users can search projects individually or they can globally search all projects at once for a particular file or string.
Project Level Search: Data Sentinel has a search toolbar that allows for quick and easy searches of the database and provides a means of monitoring Data Sentinels progress. The search box can be used to quickly search any column in the database for the specified string in the search box.
Search and Filter Widget: The search and Filter widget can be fixed to the lower right had corner of Data Sentinels user interface. It allows quick and easy searching and filtering of data in any column.
Effectivity or Configuration Control: Data Sentinel can filter the data by effectivity number or configuration control number.
You can also search any of the columns in the database simply by right clicking on the column you wish to search in the project data window. A small search toolbar will appear allowing you to enter your search string.
Global Search: A global search can also be performed that searches through all projects and returns any matches. The global search window can be accessed by selecting the "Global" button on the far left hand side toolbar. This will bring up a new window that is used specifically for global searches.
Permissions: All data access in Data Sentinel is controlled here on the Permissions screen of the Admin panel. The permissions shown here will control what toolbar buttons users can access. Permissions can be set either at the Project Level or the Group Level. Permissions set at the Project Level automatically flow down to all sub groups and folders. Permissions set at the Folder Level always override the Project Level Permissions. Permissions can be applied either by group or by individual. It is important to note that these permissions are not the operating system permissions, and are not directly applied to any windows folders. These permissions are all internal to Data Sentinel.
Users and User Groups: This tab in the Administration panel allows you to add users and create user groups. Once a user group is created members can then be easily assigned using this screen. Users and user groups added here will be available in a drop down box on the permissions screen. Both can be added to projects and groups and then assigned permission access. Creating groups and then assigning users to those groups makes managing permissions easy a quick.
Reports: Custom reports can be generated using any of the data stored in Data Sentinels databases. Company logos, headers and footers can be added to reports as well as charts and tables. All reports can be saved as a PDF file or simply printed from the report window.
